Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ★★✩✩✩

Yes, only 2 stars is what this gets. There’s nothing wrong with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, It just is a cliché sequel. It is not as crafted as the previous one. This is a movie that praises viewers for being cool enough to show up and then proceeds to insult them—but only ironically.

It is also long, 2 and a half hours, too many plots, too many jokes and I’m surprised it is even allowed to play in the Middle East. Not spoiling anything here but there’s a mention of God and creation and the movie has its own God story as well. I was utterly bored halfway, at some point I couldn’t take the puns and the jokes anymore. It felt more of a TV show than a film.

In fine words: Compared to its predecessor, Guardians 2 has a hollow emotional core, and the plotting feels clumsy. This movie doesn’t have any real purpose, even as a bridge to other chapters in the Marvel story.

However, Novo Cinemas did a great job with #NovoLeague at the premiere, with personal invites and all. Great cinema and 3D IMAX. I don’t recommend watching this film, but if you still want to watch it. It is playing across cinemas in the UAE as of May 4th.
