Review: The Promise ★★★★✩

“Empires fall, love survives.”

The movie talks about the Armenian genocide from the perspective of Michael, a brilliant medical student in Turkey during the first world war. As the Ottoman Empire crumbles into war-torn chaos, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to get their people to safety and survive themselves.

The movie tells a beautiful story, that is often untold in war movies. It is also shot in colorful, ultra-crisp widescreen. The Promise tells a story of the unrecognized Armenian Genocide.

Watch it this weekend, playing across the UAE at Novo Cinemas.
